|
Exercise Overview
Franklin County's Emergency Management Department with support from 23 agencies and organizations comprising the county's Emergency Response Team undertook an effort to develop and facilitate a disaster exercise entitled "Coastal Conflagration - An Island Evacuation Tabletop Exercise".
This exercise served as an opportunity for government agencies to work hand-in-hand with local community and faith based organizations in effort to build a stronger collaboration among the county's Emergency Response Team.
Exercise Scenario
During a long hot dry summer holiday weekend on St George Island a wildfire was ignited by a careless vacationer starting a charcoal fire. The wildfire quickly grew into a massive conflagration threatening lives and structures. Within minutes it had cut the island in half between West 9th & 10th Streets. With strong winds blowing from the east, emergency responders now face the potential of a large loss of life due to the lack of an escape route from the west end of St George Island.
