Operation Volunteer Placement Tabletop Exercise

Exercise Overview

Volunteer Leon and Big Bend COAD teamed up to facilitated a region wide tabletop formatted exercise entitled "Operation Volunteer Placement".

During this exercise individuals had the opportunity to participate in this unique internet based exercise from the comfort of their workplace or home.

On the day of the exercise individuals who have registered to play the role of Spontaneous Volunteers provided information regarding their willingness to assist organizations who are working with tornado survivors. Volunteer Leon then used that information to match the skills and talents of Spontaneous Volunteers to the man-power needs of Big Bend COAD organizations. This was accomplished via an internet based Volunteer Reception Center (VRC) application.

The mission of the exercise was be to assess the capability and capacity of Volunteer Leon's internet based VRC.

The Operation Volunteer Place Tabletop Exercise was facilitated via an internet based application entitled ON-Line eXercise (ONX) System.

Exercise Scenario

It is early February and the severe weather associated with a line of thunderstorms moving through the area prompts the Tallahassee Forecast Office of the National Weather Service to issue a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for counties throughout Florida's Big Bend Region at 1:15AM.

As the line of thunderstorms continues to intensify as it moves through the region, the Tallahassee Forecast Office of the National Weather Service issues a Tornado Watch for counties throughout the Big Bend Region.

Exercise Conclusion

The Operation Volunteer Placement Tabletop Exercise was held on the morning of May 25 2011 with organizations participating from throughout North Florida.
